Wasatch Back cap set at 500 teams!
Over 500 teams are expected to register for the MyoMed Ragnar Relay Wasatch Back. Due to this continued increase in demand the Wasatch Back will cap at 500 teams. There will be no lottery, the first 500 teams to register will be accepted. Once the 500 team cap is met registration will close. Register now, before the event fills.
Why 500 Teams?
Ragnar Events, LLC, has carefully considered the Wasatch Back cap. Ragnar's goal is to maintain a premiere event while also adding to the signature party atmosphere by allowing as many people to participate as possible. Last year, with 315 teams, some Wasatch Back participants experienced traffic congestion on parts of the course. In order to minimize traffic congestion and accommodate 500 teams we will start teams so that they are more spread out along the course. Last year, the first teams came through Exchange 24 about 5 hours before the last team came through and most teams came through in about a 2.5 hour period. This year we will spread teams out over a 12 hour period along this section of the course. This means that while there will be 185 more teams on the course there will actually be smaller crowds at most locations and thus less congestion.
In addition to increasing the spread we will be taking the following steps to further reduce and/or manage congestion:
 |
We will have more police officers at intersections, road crossings and other potentially congested locations. |
 | We will station police officers at any exchange where parking is on the opposite side of the road from the exchange. They will manage participants and spectators as they cross the road at these exchanges.
|
 | We have reserved more campsites and parking areas at East Canyon and Rockport reservoirs (Exchanges 18 and 24). |
 |
Last year vehicles entered and exited Rockport Reservoir (Exchange 24) at a single intersection. This caused a bottleneck that backed up traffic in both directions. This year we have obtained permission from a local farmer to use a private gravel road as the exit from Rockport. Having a separate entrance and exit should completely eliminate the traffic problems we experienced last year. |
