Ragnar Relay Adds The Canyons Resort in Park City As Official Sponsor of Ragnar Relay Wasatch Back
The Four Season Resort to be Official Finish Line and Post-Race Festival Site
KAYSVILLE, UT April 20, 2010 –Ragnar Relay Series announced today that The Canyons Resort in Park City, UT, will host the finish line and post-race festivities for the Ragnar Relay’s flagship race, Wasatch Back on June 19, 2010.
The luxurious resort boasts the single-largest ski and snowboard facility in Utah and one of the largest in the nation. The Canyons consists of over 3,700 acres, 167 ski runs, 18 lifts, two-cutting-edge terrain parks, and six natural halfpipes. In the summer, outdoor enthusiasts enjoy breath-taking hikes and an array of mountain bike trails.
“Utah offers a multitude of athletic adventures in the winter and summer,” said Todd Burnette, VP of Marketing at The Canyons. “Ragnar Relay Wasatch Back race has become a tradition here, and The Canyons is proud to have such a great event finish here.”
Ragnar Relay Wasatch Back was created by Utah natives Dan Hill and Tanner Bell in 2004. The course will cover 188 miles of the state’s most beautiful terrain. The race begins in Logan where runners will traverse through the gentle rolling hills of Cache Valley. Once through the valley, there will be a steady climb through the Avon Pass followed by a steep downhill into the Ogden Valley. Overall, runners will journey up and down in elevation through canyons and the Wasatch Mountains. Once runners reach Guardsman Pass, they will steeply descend into Park City and to the finish line at The Canyons Resort.
“Ragnar Relays are designed to provide runners with memorable experiences that ignite the senses. The combination of incredible scenery, fierce competition and the unity of the teams make Ragnar events the ultimate runner’s high,” said Chris Infurchia, CEO of Ragnar Relay Series.
“We are honored to have The Canyons host the finish line and post-race celebration and we know runners will definitely take full advantage of the resort’s spa and luxurious amenities to help them recover after their amazing athletic feat,” said Infurchia.
Each leg of a Ragnar Race varies in difficulty so elite and novice runners can run together in teams. Each team is responsible for providing two support vehicles, with six runners in each vehicle. The first vehicle drops off the first runner and drives ahead to the first exchange point. Teams repeat this pattern for six legs until they hand off to their second vehicle. This leapfrogging pattern continues day and night all the way to the much anticipated finish line.
About Ragnar Events, LLC
Ragnar Events, LLC was co-founded in 2004 by Dan Hill and Tanner Bell. The idea to run an overnight 24+-hour relay across the mountains of Utah was a lifelong dream of Dan Hill’s father. The dream became reality when Dan Hill and his childhood friend Tanner Bell organized the first Wasatch Back Relay, spanning 188 miles from Logan to Park City, UT in 2004. Since 2004 the Ragnar Relay Series has grown from a single relay in Utah to the largest overnight relay series in the nation. The Ragnar Relay Series now has 11 races scheduled for 2010 and is growing every year. Ragnar Events, LLC is based in Salt Lake City, UT and managed by co-founders Dan Hill and Tanner Bell.
