Fairhaven Runners - May

Fairhaven Runners is a running store located in the Fairhaven Historic District in Bellingham, Washington. Their store is just one block from the Ragnar Relay Northwest Passage course route. The team is made up of employees and former employees of the store and some of their spouses and friends. Polly Favinger is the team captain and the apparel manager for the store. We spent a minute chatting with her and asking her what she was excited about with this race.

She said she was looking forward to the shared experience with 12 people, especially with the employees of the store. “We are not elite runners so it is more about having fun. It will be fun to see areas that are around at different times of the day. We have run in a lot of these areas, but it will be different to see some of the areas at sunset, or during the night, or first thing in the morning.”

Some on the team have run similar relay races, but all are excited to participate in the Northwest Passage. Some of the other relays were a little too far away, and when they heard about this race, they were ready to run. When asked what she was most looking forward to with this race, Polly said, “The beauty of this area is unsurpassed. The combination of mountains and saltwater views is a great way of showcasing this part of the state. The course has an excellent variety of flat areas and hills. Whidbey Island is a great place to run, and obviously Deception Pass is a big part of the route.”

If you are not yet registered for this awesome race, there is still time; late registration closes on June 30th. We are excited to bring the Ragnar spirit to the state of Washington and look forward to seeing all of the participants there.

Thank you for registering for the 2010 So Cal Ragnar Relay. Stay tuned for future emails as the race map is subject to change.

We are currently in the process of petitioning for permits from the City of Malibu which might impact exchanges 12-18. Any questions should be addressed to the race director, Steven Aderholt.

We are confident that this year's race will be a huge success. Preparing for and permitting a slightly adjusted, more scenic and safe route with flawless logistics and an outstanding finish line is our goal, and we are well on our way! The race route should be finalized AT LEAST 60 days prior to race day.

See you on the course
